The Ascension Island spurge Euphorbia origanoides is listed as Critically Endangered with 3,903 specimens counted in the 2014 annual endemic plant census. The Ascension spurge forms easily recognisable bushy dome-shaped plants which grow to about half a metre high and one metre across. Healthy colonies can be found on South Gannet Hill, Comfortless Cove and south of Hummock Point, with small groups of individuals found in other places around the island. It appears to favour marginal, barren habitat where few other species are present. |
