As a result of intensive conservation efforts, the remaining endemic plant species are showing some positive signs of recovery with a number of populations increasing in abundance. One success story is the rediscovery of the Ascension Island parsley fern Anogramma ascensionis, which had previously been declared extinct. The fern was rediscovered in 2010 by local Conservation Officer Stedson Stroud and botanist Phil Lambdon on a sharp ridge on the southern slopes of Green Mountain. A restoration project was then initiated and plant numbers in the wild are currently increasing. |
