Introduction

The history of Gibraltar, a small peninsula on the southern Iberian coast near the entrance of the Mediterranean Sea, spans over 2,900 years. Attached to the Iberian peninsula via a sandy strip of land just south of Spain, Gibraltar is just 7km long yet extremely biodiverse with a rich and fascinating history and political backdrop.

Plan of the town and fortifications of Gibraltar, exactly taken on the spot in the year 1738
