The combination of strong tides and a rocky shoreline has resulted in many ship-wrecks in the waters around Alderney, some of which can still be seen at low tide. The earliest wreck dates from the Elizabethan period and its remains and contents are conserved by the Alderney Maritime Trust.

The rugged and rocky coastline can be treacherous for vessels navigating Alderney's waters
