Waste management is also a major issue for Anguilla. Much of the refuse generated on the island and by visitors is dumped in open landfill. The Corito Landfill site was deemed “full” in 2004, but is still being used. There are concerns about pollution of the ground water. Alternative solutions are still being sought, including compacting and covering the waste to reduce smells, flies and rodents.
