In 2017, the eyewall of Hurricane Irma passed over Anguilla, causing serious damage to island infrastructure including the hospital and schools. Over 90% of the roads were left impassable, and the total losses to the economy were estimated at $190 million. Importantly for the economy, most holiday resorts were open again one year later.
