In 2018, Sombrero was listed officially as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention, following evidence gathering work by UKOTCF, the Anguilla National Trust and other local partners. This designation recognises the international importance of Sombrero as a breeding site for a wide range of seabirds.
