The Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty (1991) provides a licensing regime for all activities in the Territory by British nationals. While best known for its ban on commercial mining in Antarctica, this legislation covers also environmental monitoring and impact assessment, waste management, oil spills and protected areas, species and heritage. |
