The Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation funded the Global Reef Expedition to British Indian Ocean Territory as a part of a second research mission of 2015. It aimed to conduct coral reef surveys and high resolution mapping on the surrounding reefs of the islands of the Chagos Archipelago.
