Tourist activities such as boating, diving and angling are also associated with physical damage to reef structure, with direct negative consequences for reef organisms and knock-on effects on the ecosystem services provided by the reef. Studies have also highlighted the chronic physiological stress caused to reef animals by prolonged contact with humans.
