Traditionally the name, Gibraltar comes from Jebel Tarik, the Moorish chieftain who captured Gibraltar in 711. But there is another theory, linked to the spectacular bird migration. In Arabic, Jebel is a mountain, and Taer means bird. So Jebel Taer – Gibraltar – Mountain of Birds.
