Features of Natural Interest

Gibraltar’s waters are home to a vast array of marine life including dolphins and whales and the somewhat less charismatic – but no less important – sea slug. As a result, the Southern Waters of Gibraltar area has been established as a Special Area of Conservation with a unique management plan to protect the marine flora and fauna. In July 2013 Gibraltar's Government sank 72 concrete blocks into the sea to create an artificial reef as a haven for marine life.
