Features of Natural Interest

There are two species of sand eels that live in Jersey’s sandy beaches. They are silvery fish which range in size from 10 to 25 cm. They bury themselves in the sands on the middle shore, thereby encouraging larger species such as sea bass. Many marine species do this when the tide is out to avoid predation and to prevent drying out before the tide returns. Click here for a leaflet on the creatures that live in Jersey’s sandy shores and here for more information about sand eels.
