Features of Natural Interest

One unusual inter-tidal to sub-tidal species which can be found, is a gastropod mollusc known as the Ormer. This has a flattened dome-like shell. Globally, ormers are known as abalones. The ormer attaches itself to the underside of rocks and boulders via a large muscular foot and grazes on seaweeds. Although no longer gathered commercially, the species is seen as a delicacy on Jersey and is an important part of the island’s heritage.
