Another Durrell programme is working to conserve the Critically Endangered mountain chicken, a species of frog found only on the Caribbean island of Montserrat, one of the UK’s Overseas Territories, and nearby Dominica. Due to threats such as Montserrat’s volcanic eruption in the 90’s and chytridiomycosis, a disease affecting amphibians, the global population of this species has declined by approximately 99% in the past 12 years.
