Formed in 2004, St Helena’s Active Participation in Enterprise (SHAPE) non-profit organisation is St Helena’s first social enterprise that offers opportunities for St Helena’s disabled, vulnerable and long-term unemployed. SHAPE’s core services are achieved through the provision of training in traditionally inspired crafts, with a focus on green initiatives. SHAPE is supported by the Government but still needs to raise a proportion of its capital through the sale of its products, fundraising and donations. They have also been successful in securing funds from the Darwin Initiative for their paper and card recycling centre and for creating insulation boards and fuel bricks from recycled paper and cardboard.
