Organisations working to protect biodiversity 1: Falkland Island Government (FIG) has 3 departments that work on areas relating to the environment: the Environmental Planning Directorate work in a number of key environmental areas that include building control and spatial planning, conservation of built heritage, coordination, monitoring and review of the local Biodiversity Strategy and the Government’s international environment commitments, pest control and waste management. The Department of Natural Resources includes Agriculture, Veterinary services, Biosecurity, Fisheries and Marine operations. The Department of Mineral Resources has oversight of the offshore oil and gas industry and any onshore mining or mineral exploration that may take place. |
