Leeward Going Through separates the main tourist island of Providenciales from the nature reserve of Little Water Cay, and is also in the Princess Alexandra National Park.  Dredging during hotel and mega-yacht marina construction seriously damaged the protected area, and the marina now takes up half the width of the channel. The anticipated use by wealthy yachters has not materialised.
