Over several years, Ann Pienkowski (the Honorary Environmental Education Coordinator of UK Overseas Territories Conservation Forum) has taken a good deal of video film of the nature of UK Overseas Territories, during her voluntary work helping on local projects. Some of this has been used for local events and TV broadcasts. Use of some of it has been donated also to fill gaps in coverage in making the mini-documentaries in the Britain's Treasure Islands series (see section 2 below).
Recognising that she has some unique material, Ann has now started editing her video into short documentaries. These videos may be used freely, with acknowledgement to Ann and UKOTCF. Links to these will be added below as they become available.
Montserrat Birding in Paradise
- an introduction to visiting Montserrat and its unique wildlife, produced shortly after UKOTCF and Montserrat National Trust published the book "Birding in Paradise: The Caribbean Emerald Isle of Montserrat - A guide to bird-watching, nature and heritage sites" (available from www.ukotcf.org/birding-in-Monserrat).
Grand Turk Special Birds on your doorstep
- a video of the birds of the salinas (salt-pans) of Grand Turk to celebrate the opening of trails by UKOTCF and the Turks & Caicos National Museum. Guides in the Birding in Paradise series for each of the islands are available (from www.ukotcf.org/birding-in-Turks-and-Caicos).
2. | Videos made, with the help of UKOTCF and partner organisations, for the Britain's Treasure Islands project |
Separate from the Britain's Treasure Islands TV documentary series, 42 "mini-documentarie" have been made using the footage (and often totally unrelated stories) that were not used in the main broadcast series, supplemented by other video and still photography made available without charge by UK Overseas Territories Conservation Forum and some of its partner organisations.
All 42 films are intended as an educational resource and are provided free of charge for all to watch and enjoy (see below). It is hoped that these films will help raise awareness of the wildlife, cultures, history and heritage of all of the UK Overseas Territories.
The 42 mini-documentaries were created on a tiny budget using funds raised through KickStarter.com, with the help of UKOTCF, and donations from several organisations and individuals. Stewart McPherson sends a big thanks once more to all who helped make these short films possible. UKOTCF supplied information, materials and comments on early drafts of documentaries in this series. Editorial decisions remained with Stewart.
