Introduction

Mining on the Isle of Man has a long history, with evidence of bronze age activity at Ballaugh. Two stone mauls from South Bradda have been dated from around 1200BC. The Great Mine at Laxey closed in 1929, ending the main mining activity.

The Great Wheel at Laxey. The Laxey Wheel is the largest working waterwheel in the world. The wheel was used to pump water from the Glen Mooar part of the Great Laxey Mines industrial complex
