The island is home to many different bird species, including chough, peregrine, hen harrier, long-eared owl, curlew, storm petrel and Manx shearwater.  The chough population is around 250 birds, and there is a large winter roost of hen harriers, with up to 120 birds. The corncrake has not been heard for many years.
