The invertebrate fauna of Cyprus was much diminished following the use of DDT as an anti-malarial agent and the continued heavy use of agricultural, horticultural and household pesticides. Despite this, the SBAs, with their varied habitat complexes, support a wide range of invertebrates including butterflies, dragonflies, spiders and beetles. Comprehensive surveys of both areas are needed to determine the full range of species present. (At WSBA some surveys were undertaken by the Republic as part of a LIFE project.) |
